Kristín Björg Sigurvinsdóttir writes for children and young adults. She holds a Master’s degree in Law from the University of Iceland. Kristín worked as a lawyer for two years before pursuing her career in writing. In 2019, she returned to a manuscript she wrote as a teenager, and spent the next years writing the fantasy trilogy Dulstafir (e. Mystic Runes). The last book in the installment will be published in the fall of 2023. The two previous books in the trilogy have been nominated for the 2020 Icelandic Literary Prize in the category of Children’s and YA literature, the Women’s Literature Prize and the second book received the booksellers‘ award for the best Icelandic Children’s and YA book of 2022. Kristín has a passion for writing engaging books to encourage children and young people to become avid readers.
Daughter of the Sea is the first, stand-alone title in her Mystic Runes trilogy. The second book in the series, The Bronze Harp, was published by Bókabeitan in October 2022 and the last book in the installment comes out in the fall of 2023. The Mystic Runes series is a classic saga of good versus evil. Kristín Björg Sigurvinsdóttir er með BA- og meistaragráðu í lögfræði frá Háskóla Íslands. Þrettán ára gömul skrifaði hún sína fyrstu skáldsögu, Dóttir hafsins, og er það fyrsta bókin í fantasíu þríleiknum Dulstafir. Hún vann sem lögfræðingur í tvö ár en árið 2019 ákvað hún að skipta um starfsferil og elta drauminn um að gefa út bókina sem hún skrifaði á unglingsárunum. Dóttir hafsins var tilnefnd til Íslensku bókmenntaverðlaunanna í flokki barna- og unglingabóka árið 2020. Bronsharpan var tilnefnd til Fjöruverðlaunanna í flokki barna- og unglingabóka árið 2022 og var kosin besta barna- og ungmennabók sama árs af bóksölum. Kristín hefur brennandi áhuga á að skrifa spennandi ævintýrabækur í von um að þær kveiki lestraráhuga yngri lesenda.
Aðalpersónan heitir Elísa og er sextán ára unglingur á Vestfjörðum. Í fyrstu bókinni, Dóttir hafsins, ferðast hún neðansjávar til borgar á hafsbotni undan ströndum Íslands og kemst að því að hún er hluti af ævafornum spádómi marfólksins. Á hafsbotni uppgötvar hún leyndan mátt og sigrast á óvinum marþjóðarinnar. Í Bronshörpunni ferðast hún til landsins Renóru. Þar hittir hún fjóra unglinga frá mismunandi tímum íslandssögunnar sem eru líka með yfirnáttúrulega krafta. Þau kalla sig gæslumenn grunnefnanna og í bókinni hefst vegferð þeirra til að bjarga Renóru frá illu gyðjunni Draxönu. Í síðustu bók þríleiksins hefst lokaorrustan milli hinna góðu og illu afla landsins en sagan byrjar í beinu framhaldi af fyrri bókinni. Orrustan um Renóru er þroskasaga þar sem aðalsöguhetjan fæst við sorg, ást og samskipti kynjanna og öllu því sem fylgir því að vaxa úr grasi.
