Kertu Sillaste

Kertu Sillaste (b. 1973) is an illustrator, book designer, picture book author and textile artist. She graduated from the Estonian Academy of Arts in textile design in 1996 and from the Tallinn University’s in Master of Arts in Education in 2017. Sillaste teaches kids in the Estonian Children’s Literature Centre´s Art Chamber and leads illustration courses in Estonian Art Academy. Kertu Sillaste is a member of the Estonian Graphic Designers Association and the Estonian Section of IBBY. She has illustrated books and textbooks and has collaborated with children’s magazines, written six picture books, designed books, posters and more. Her signature style comprises thick, vibrant India-ink brush strokes combined with acrylics or collage. Four of her picture books are dedicated to art. Sillaste leads workshops in schools and libraries introducing arts and illustrators work to kids. Among her books are Everyone Makes Art Their Own Way (2016), I Am an Artist (2018), The Animals Went to Town (2019), The Most Beautiful Skirt (2019) and a silent book HELP! (2021).
