Gunnar Theodór Eggertsson

Gunnar Theodór Eggertsson was born in 1982 in Reykjavik. He has written books for children, teenagers and adults, and is particularly fond of weird fiction. His first published work was A Winter Tale, a horror short story about the Icelandic yule lads, which won him an award from the Icelandic Crime Writers Association in 2005.
Gunnar received the Icelandic Children‘s Book Prize in 2008 for The Stone Animals and was nominated for the Icelandic Literary Prize for Dead-Dísa in 2015.
Gunnar holds a M.A.-degree in film studies from the University of Amsterdam and a PhD in comparative literature from The University of Iceland, where he specialized in animal ethics and animal fiction.
He is interested in storytelling across various media and has e.g. worked as a film critic for the National Radio Service and written for the upcoming video game Island of Winds, which is based on Icelandic folklore. Gunnar’s latest book is Witches’ Brew, the first volume of the Weird Mountain series, a fantasy about a hidden island that lies beyond the north.
